What is the Nobel Prize?

The Nobel Prize is awarded in the fields of physics, chemistry, medicine, literature and for services in preserving peace. It is awarded to people that have "brought mankind the greatest achievement in the past year".

This was decided by the founder of the prize, the Swedish chemist, Alfred Nobel. The awards are financed by his fortune. The Nobel Prize is regarded as the greatest honor that anyone can receive for his or her work.
