Elsa Einstein becomes friends with the journalist and confides in her during difficult times.

Antonina Vallentin is the culture correspondent of the Manchester Guardian and accredited to the League of Nations. In 1930 her biography of Gustav Stresemann makes a stir in Germany.

Her husband is the French diplomat Julien Luchaire, whom Albert Einstein meets in the Committee for Intellectual Cooperation.
