Einstein Declines Re-Admittance to the Berliner Academy after 1945

After World War II and the Holocaust Einstein keeps his distance from Germany.

All attempts by various scholarly organizations to recover him as a member are destined to fail.

Since its re-opening, decreed by the Soviet occupation, it is called the “Deutsche Akademie der Wissenschaften zu Berlin.”

After the seizure of power in 1933, its predecessor had seen “no occasion” to regret Einstein’s politically motivated resignation.
