Einstein's heirs in the age of the Internet
Quantum gravity is the prime example for a discipline revolutionized by the advent of the internet. Where, in the old days, it tooks weeks or months for a researcher to present his results to the scientific community. Nowadays, a communication structure has evolved by which publications are accessible world-wide the day after they have been submitted. Research in string theory has evolved into an international network of its own: An article published by a German today can draw a reply from the US or an extension from Japan the very next day. The rapid exchange creates the possibility for extensive discussion, and knowledge is disseminated around the world as freely as never before.
