Image Taken With XMM-Newton

This is the first image taken by XMM-Newton on January 19, 2000. It is the X-ray image of Large Magellanic Cloud, a galaxy nearby the Milky Way.

In the false color scale, blue are more energetic and red are less energetic regions. Many more details are actually visible in the X-ray image, since the EPIC X-ray sensitivity is wider than that of the human eye.

The bright white spot in the low quarter right is Supernova 1987A.
