A 50-Ion Crystal ...
... would offer the total available computing power worldwide - as a quantum computer. Each ion would be able to adopt not only two states, as in a normal computer, but also combinations of states. Each arithmetic operation using qubits manipulates complex information. Finding the algorithms and maintaining the information stored in the qubits are great challenges.
