Sensible Dependence on Initial Conditions

The figure shows the effect of a minimal disturbance of the motion in a Lorenz system.

This symptom of a sensitive dependence on initial conditions is often also viewed as the essence of chaotic dynamics. This conception is certainly in need of revision: there are nonchaotic classical systems that show the same behaviour - and the theme quantum chaos hints at different criteria, too.
